Most tourists stick to Belitung or hop across Bali, Lombok, and the usual
spots. But something about the lesser-known Bangka Belitung Islands called
to me—especially
the granite-framed coastlines I’d only seen in postcards.
That’s how I found myself at Parai Tenggiri Beach, staring at
some of the most
surreal seaside rock formations I’ve ever seen—and realizing I
had nearly the whole place to myself.
Where Is It and
How to Get There
Parai Tenggiri Beach is located on Bangka Island, just outside Sungailiat,
a small town about 45 km (1 hour) north of Pangkalpinang, the island’s
capital.
Here’s how to get there:
· Fly to Pangkalpinang
Airport (Depati Amir) from Jakarta or other major Indonesian
cities (1–1.5 hour flight)
· From
the airport, rent
a car or hire a taxi to Sungailiat and continue toward Parai Beach Resort
· For
a more local experience, motorbike rentals are available in Pangkalpinang (but
watch for sandy roads)

First
Impression: A Beach Made of Sculpture
I’ve been to beaches with white sand, coral reefs, and even black volcanic
coasts. But Parai
Tenggiri? It felt like a natural art gallery.
Massive granite boulders spilled onto the shoreline—some stacked, some
curved, all smoothed by centuries of wind and water. The ocean was calm, clear,
and softly lapped against the sand.
It’s the kind of place that makes you put your phone down—not for content,
but just to look.
What to Do at
Parai Tenggiri Beach
This beach offers a balance of adventure and relaxation—perfect for a day
trip or a quiet seaside stay.
1. Swim in Crystal Clear Water
The waves are gentle, the
seabed is sandy, and the tide is kind. Ideal for families or float-lovers.
2. Snorkeling Near the Rocks
Bring your gear or rent some
from local stalls. Around the granite formations are small reefs and fish
clusters, especially at low tide.
3. Climb the Boulders for Epic Photos
The granite rocks are
walkable and surprisingly stable—offering panoramic views and unique
angles for sunrise/sunset shots.
4. Relax at a Seaside Café
Small warungs and beach bars sell fresh coconut, grilled fish, mie goreng,
and sweet iced tea. I sat with my toes in the sand, munching satay while
watching the sun melt into the horizon.
Best Time to
Visit
The best months to visit are April to October, during the dry
season. Rain is minimal, and skies are clear.
· Early Morning (6–9 AM):
Perfect lighting, peaceful vibes, and fewer visitors
· Sunset (4:30–6 PM):
Golden-hour reflections on the granite and sea
Avoid weekends or local holidays if you want the beach all to yourself.

and easy access to the coast.
